Minerve, in the Herault Department dates back to Roman times from
where it's name is derived.

After the massacres in Bezier in 1209, many Cathars fled here for
safety. It had a fortress shielded by a double curtain
wall.

In 1210 de Montfort besieged the town with 4 engines, damaging
the walls and isolating the water supply. The town was forced to
capitulate. In the order of 180 Cathars were burned at the
stake.
