Chateau Foix

The first castle dated from the 600s and a castle is recorded in 987.  Being a border region it was seen as a Cathar refuge.  In 1002 Roger the Elder, count of Carcasonne gave it to Roger Bernard who became Count of Foix.  He was a Cathar supporter and his sister was recording as being a Cathar believer and Parfaite as was his wife Philippa.  It was besieged unsuccessfully by Simon de Montfort in 1211 and 1212.
