Chateau Foix
![]() The first castle dated from the 600s and a castle is
recorded in 987. Being a border region it was seen as a Cathar
refuge. In 1002 Roger the Elder, count of Carcasonne gave it
to Roger Bernard who became Count of Foix. He was a
Cathar supporter and his sister was recording as being a Cathar
believer and Parfaite as was his wife Philippa. It was
besieged unsuccessfully by Simon de Montfort in 1211 and
1212.
