Domme is a bastide town in the
Dordogne, also known as Doma in Occitan. It was raided
by Simon de Montfort during his ravages along the
Dordogne.
The present town was founded
in 1281 by Philip the Bold and therefore post dates the Crusade.
It has fine views.
Knights Templar imprisoned
with the gate towers left graffiti after their arrests in 1307 which may
still be seen.
The WWII war memorial
commemorates the dead in combat (presumably of the Resistance), those
deported and other civilians shot by the
Nazis.
