Another fine castle in Aude Department, though
typically what is seen today is of a later period than the Albigensian
Crusade.

Believed to have originally belonged to the Abbey of
Lagrasse after the turn of the 10th century, it passed to the Lords of
Termes.
After being taken by Simon de Montfort's crusaders, he
passed it to one of his commanders: Pierre de Voisins, Oliver de Termes
reclaimed it back in 1246 after his surrender, but then sold it to
Pierre de Voisins.
The present castle was completed in 1316 by Gilles II
after the village was fortified into a
bastide.
