Chateau Queribus

This fine castle in the department of Aude was the last Cathar held fortress to fall.

After the loss of Montsegur it was the last stronghold in Cathar hands.  In 1255 a French army marched to lay siege to it but the remaining Cathars had already fled.

It ranked as one of the 'Five Sons of Carcassonne'

It stands 728m above sea level and forms an impressive site.  It lost it's significance after the border with Spain shifted south.
