Chateau Peyreperteuse

Another spectacular castle precariously perched on a craggy mountain top.

The castle, despite it's fine natural defences was surrendered without a fight in May 1217.

The upper castle was built by the French after the crusade, only the lower part being of the Cather epoch.

This formed one of the 'Five Sons of Carcassonne'.
